Civic Engagement
Building Civic Power
Giving people the information, tools, and opportunity to participate in politics at every level.
Why civic engagement?
A System in Need of Change
Too many voices have gone unheard.
Only 52% of Ventura County voters participate in statewide elections, leaving a major participation gap. With dozens of races going uncontested and systemic barriers keeping people from voting or stepping into leadership roles, Ventura County’s decisionmakers don’t represent the communities they serve. Empowering more people to participate in local, state, and federal politics strengthens our democracy and ensures everyone has a say in Ventura County’s future.
Our Approach
Shaping What’s Next
Because representation starts with participation.
Our democracy only works when everyone has a voice. We’re building a more politically informed and engaged community and supporting the next generation of leaders.
-
01
Advocacy & policy reform
We work with local governments and mobilize community support for voter accessibility initiatives like the Voter’s Choice Act—a state law that expands mail-in ballots, early voting, and permit voting at any election center in the county.
-
02
Community engagement
From bilingual voter education efforts to resources designed to encourage Spanish-speaking residents to vote, we help all community members understand key policies and the importance of their ballot.
-
03
Leadership development
We organize candidate training forums to empower youth, progressives, and people of color to run for office, laying the foundation for a future where Ventura County’s leadership reflects the values and diversity of the community.
